Flexible office and remote work: understanding the options
Remote work has become widespread in French companies since 2020. By 2026, 45% of French employees will be working in a hybrid model at least one day a week. Flexible offices—coworking spaces, shared offices, third places—represent an alternative to working entirely from home.
The different types of flexible offices
Coworking offers a shared workspace with other professionals. Shared offices, or corporate coworking spaces, allow a company to sublet its unused offices. Third places, often located in rural or suburban areas, combine workspace with local services.
Advantages of a flexible office vs. working from home
The flexible office offers a clear separation between professional and personal life, a professional working environment, networking opportunities, and infrastructure (reliable internet, meeting room) that the home does not always offer.
The legal framework in France
The 2021 National Interprofessional Agreement (ANI) governs teleworking. Employers can cover all or part of the costs of a coworking space used by an employee working remotely. Some companies allocate a monthly budget of 200 to 400 euros for coworking.
How to convince your employer
Present coworking as an investment: increased productivity, employee well-being, reduced real estate footprint. Offer a one-month trial period with clear performance indicators.
