Zürich is expensive — that much is obvious. But its coworking market tells a more nuanced story than you might expect. With 72 spaces and day passes averaging CHF 24.69, the city is actually cheaper per desk than you'd assume given that a basic lunch here costs CHF 25. Monthly memberships average CHF 324, which sounds steep until you consider that a traditional office lease in Kreis 1 runs CHF 800+ per square meter per year.
Zürich's coworking scene is dominated by two international operators — Regus and Spaces (IWG group) — who together account for a significant share of the city's inventory. Regus operates from multiple locations including Centre Ville in Kreis 4 (CHF 17/day), Seefeldstrasse 69 in Kreis 8 (CHF 34/day), The Circle near the airport (CHF 28/day), and a location in the Altstadt (CHF 28/day). Spaces runs premium locations at Bleicherweg 10 in Enge (CHF 33/day) and Bahnhofplatz 1 in the Altstadt (CHF 32/day).
This concentration of international operators reflects Zürich's business character. The city's coworking clientele leans corporate: consultants, financial services professionals, and international companies needing a Swiss presence without a permanent office. The vibe in many spaces is more business lounge than startup garage.
Day passes range from CHF 15 to CHF 34, a wider spread than most European cities. The Regus Centre Ville location at CHF 17/day is a genuine outlier — it's by far the cheapest option in Zürich and sits in Kreis 4, a neighborhood that has gentrified considerably but retains lower commercial rents than the Bahnhofstrasse corridor.
At the premium end, Spaces Bleicherweg (CHF 33/day) and Regus Seefeldstrasse (CHF 34/day) target professionals for whom the address matters. Bleicherweg is in Enge, steps from the lake and the financial district. Seefeldstrasse runs through Kreis 8, Zürich's equivalent of a Notting Hill — upscale, residential, and well-connected.
Monthly memberships range from roughly CHF 258 to CHF 391. The Circle, near Zürich Airport, commands the highest monthly rate at CHF 391, which makes sense for international professionals who fly frequently — it's literally connected to the terminal.
The Altstadt (Old Town) is the prestige choice, with both Regus and Spaces operating within walking distance of Paradeplatz and the main train station. Kreis 4 and Kreis 5, the former industrial zones west of the main station, offer more character and lower prices. Kreis 8, along the eastern lake shore, provides a quieter, more residential setting.
The Circle complex at the airport deserves a special mention. It's a self-contained business and lifestyle district with hotels, restaurants, and conference facilities. For professionals who split time between Zürich and other cities, it eliminates the commute to the airport entirely.
Working from Zürich offers specific advantages: political stability, some of the world's best internet infrastructure, a central European timezone, and a multilingual business culture (German, English, French, and Italian are all in regular use). For international remote workers, Switzerland's tax system can be advantageous depending on canton and situation — though navigating it requires professional advice.
The downside is obvious: everything costs more. But for professionals billing in Swiss francs or strong currencies, the coworking-to-income ratio may actually be better than in many cheaper cities.
